My favorite get-a-way, I must visit historic Niagara at least 10 times a year. Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter it is always a beautiful place to be and of course don't forget Niagara-on-the-Lake probably Canada's prettiest small town and while you are there and if you are a true genealogist check out the historic Butler's Burial Groumds.
This is one of Lake Huron's nicest beaches, Grand Bend, Ontarians know this place well but for you out of Province and out of Country sun amd beach worshippers this is a must see and don't forget the suntan lotion.
Well you have heard of the Bermuda Triangle well Ontario has the Georgian Triangle and they promise you won't disappear. Some of the towns in this beautiful triangle are Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Meaford, Thornbury, Clearview and Beaver Valley and it is also great ski country. So what are you waiting for turn off that computer and go for it.
Tobermory. Had my first visit there last summer "WOW", I have never seen water so crystal clear as it is in Tobermory which is located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. Take the tour on the Great Blue Heron a glass bottom boat which will take you to Fathom Five National Marine Park where you will be able to view shipwrecks under the crystal clear waters, then it's over to Flower Pot Island where you can get off the boat and tour the island, taking the walking tour. Beware, don't forget the video camera on this one. Then if you are the adventurous type it's scuba diving lesson time.
Sauble Beach just a short drive up from Grand Bend. After a day at the beach you can try out Sauble's amusement park, go-kart racing my daughter's favourite and a large roller blading rink with music of the 50's and 60's my favourite era. Pretty romantic.
The purpose of this link was to tell you about my favourite eating establishment in Guelph called Angel's Diner which is only a few years old. This place takes you back to the rock and roll era quite tastefully and if you want to go back in time to get away from the stress of the 90's then this does the trick for me. However, I ran across this page about Gordon Couling 1913-1984 he was an Artist and Historian who dedicated his life to the arts and cultural life of Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
The Domain of Killien, Haliburton, Ontario and "The Innkeepers' Register. It lists 329 prestigious guest accommodations in Canada, the U.S.A. and Great Britain. This site is very descriptive and shows pictures of each Inn. It is also very comprehensive and very well planned out. No matter where you live in the world this page is worth looking at if you're planning your next vacation. As a matter of fact as soon as I finish typing this I am going back to their site to start planning my next vacation.
Now if you are planning a visit to Toronto then this link will take you to North America's top award winning transit system. It gives you a history of the T.T.C., subway map and other things happening at the T.T.C. When you are in Toronto ask your subway station collector for a route guide as it is full of information on how to get around Toronto and lists all subway stations and buses that run in our city. Plus it has additional Go Bus and Go Train information.
Just one and a half hours north of Toronto are two of the most picturesque towns side by side that you would ever want to see, Midland and Penetanguishene. Home of the historic Martyr's Shrine Church and Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. Midland has a souvenir shop that advertises itself as the biggest souvenir shop north of Toronto, this place alone is worth the visit because it has just about every possible souvenir you can think of, so if you have been looking for that one unique souvenir that you can't find anywhere else then check it out. This will probably be my last travel link on this page because this link takes you to one enormous site and has just about everything you want to know about vactions spots in Ontario, including Toronto.
I don't know why I forgot to include the beautiful City of Stratford, but I received a request from a very special lady whom I have never met personally but have grown to admire her and her wisdom. I myself could not do justice to Stratford, Ontario home of The Shakespearin Festival City so I will just let you go there and enjoy the page.
Built by the Merchants Bank in 1870, the Classical Revival Style house was the manager’s residence. The smaller side (the bank) is in the Italianate style. Later it became the home of Col. Hugh Clark MP, great uncle of former Prime Minster Joe Clark. The large stone verandah, arbour and fireplaces were added at this time. Margaret and Donald P. Arscott, purchased the home in 1963 from Madge Clark, daughter in law of Col. Hugh Clark. In 2003, the present owners, Donald and Marilyn Arscott, son and daughter-in law of Margaret and Donald, purchased the family home. Since then there has been major renovations with a view to (someday!) restoring the home to its former glory. As with all older homes, it is an ongoing labour of love. The master bedroom features an original fireplace and three large windows and a view of the lake. Furnished with a custom made oak queen sized bed, double dresser, armoire and television, this large room is comfortable for a couple. The smaller bedroom is tastefully furnished with an antique double bed and has a view of the east garden. Suitable for one guest. The bathroom has been recently renovated to reflect the style of yesteryear. The claw foot tub is perfect for a long soak and the chandelier gives a feeling of true luxury. There is also a double shower with lots of fluffy towels provided. Every morning, a delicious, hot breakfast is served in our heritage dining room. In warm weather, you may also enjoy eating on the verandah.
