My family history, from my Dad's side, takes place in the Muskoka area.

My grandmother, Paulina Amelia Hicks, (1878-1981)was born in a log cabin, about 2 miles from Manotik in a small village. The home was on an island in the Rideau River. Boats were smaller and traveled from Ottawa to Kingston. The river froze in winter. She had an uncle, Orlan Harris, who married Sarah Bunting, a sister of Amelia's. They lived across the river from the Hicks family. Amelia and Sara Bunting came from Ireland and stayed with William Mansfield before settling in the area.
Paulina's parents names were: Henry Hicks (1857-1922) and Amelia Bunting (1847-1942). Amelia had a first husband named William John Knox (1848-1874).
Paulina married Thomas Alfred Mountford (1872-1943), who lived in a house on Brandy Lake (we assume it is near Bracebridge and Port Carling). Thomas came to Canada at the age of 4 from England. Mostly Native Americans lived in that area. Two stillborn children were buried on the Mountford homestead at Brandy Lake some time around 1876.
